Job Description
1. Job Purpose:

Responsible for performing, planning and execution of the assigned compliance, financial, and operational audits and special projects in accordance with department plans and programs that are primarily directed to an appraisal of the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of all internal systems of control established by Management and/or the Board in order to safeguard the interests of the Group and its Shareholders.

2. Primary Duties Performed:

a) Perform the planning and execution of regulatory, financial, and operational audits and special projects allocated by the Director, Group Internal Audit / Senior Manager, Group Internal Audit. These activities will be carried out in accordance with established audit work standards and under supervision of the Senior Manager, Group Internal Audit.

b) Examine and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of information systems and business controls

c) Identify and document business processes and controls in order to evaluate risks and compensating controls

d) Lead or facilitate meetings to discuss audit findings with relevant department representative assigned for the audit and with Department heads.

e) Reports audit findings to the Senior Manager, Group Internal Audit and prepares written reports for areas audited, ensuring that they provide an accurate picture of findings.

f) Carries out audit work for appraising the implementation of agreed recommended actions by operating management.

g) Assists the Senior Manager, Group Internal Audit in reviewing policies, procedures and systems in accordance with specified terms of reference. Assists in carrying out ad-hoc reviews undertaken by the department.

Job Skills
• Qualification obtained by certification from and membership of recognised professional bodies in accounting and/or auditing disciplines;
• A minimum of 3 years of internal or external audit post qualification experience gained in appropriate organisations.
• Experience of the insurance / reinsurance industry with awareness of the principles of insurance and reinsurance; and
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
• A close degree of interaction is required to be maintained during the performance of audit work/ assignments with Operational Managers and staff of all operating units.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries from department in the absence of the Senior Manager / Director, Group Internal Audit.
• Ability to communicate one-on-one and to groups to explain policies and procedures, and to persuade others to accept or adopt a specific opinion or action.
• Ability to effectively present information and/or a convincing argument to executives.
• Establish good relations with External Auditors and other consultants in the course of carrying out / assisting in the liaison of the Group’s external audit and other assignments.
• Reports to the Senior Manager, Group Internal Audit under whose supervision the job holder’s work is carried out.

Individual audits are carried out in accordance with established audit plans and programmes and in conformity with department audit standards.
